Abstract

Today’s opportunity to have worldwide access to resources and capacities enables
manufacturing companies to select for each business opportunity the best suitable partners and join in manufacturing networks to fulfil highly customized products. Core competencies of different network partners and their resources are combined in a job-oriented fashion for a defined period. In terms of successful co-operation, the inter-organisational processes gain in importance when compared to the inner processes, because they influence the quality of the output, the delivery time and the service level. In manufacturing networks, quality aspects still seem to be of secondary importance. While being a network partner, organizations often do
not dispose of right concepts to measure and control quality of inter-organisational processes within the network. Functionalities of existing quality management systems are limited to guarantee process quality within the own company but not in networks.
